eBay Chooses British Columbia for New Customer Support Center

San Jose, CA and Burnaby, BC -- eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY: www.ebay.com), the world's online marketplace TM, announced today that Burnaby, British Columbia, part of the greater Vancouver metropolitan area, has been chosen as the site for its new international customer support center.

The center will provide customer support to eBay members from its American, Canadian and Australian web sites beginning in April 2003. eBay has already begun recruiting employees and the company expects to hire as many as 600 people over the next two years.

eBay's customer support team, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, serves its community of users through email and online chat. The Burnaby office will be eBay’s fourth customer support center, joining existing operations in Salt Lake City, Utah; Omaha, Nebraska; and Dreilinden, Germany.

"We continuously strive to make trading on eBay the best experience possible and customer support is a big part of that commitment,” said Jim Weber, vice president of global customer support at eBay. "Burnaby is an ideal site for our new center, and we very much look forward to becoming part of the greater Vancouver community."

After a careful selection process, eBay chose Burnaby and the greater Vancouver area for a number of reasons including its educated, tech-savvy work force and quality of life. In addition, the location offers easy access to eBay's San Jose, California headquarters as well as its customer support center in Salt Lake City. Deloitte & Touche acted as site selection consultant for the search.

Derek Corrigan, mayor of the city of Burnaby is very pleased to welcome eBay as a new corporate citizen, adding to the city’s growing inventory of significant employers.

“The provincial government welcomes eBay’s decision to open a facility in British Columbia that will provide employment for up to 600 residents in the greater Vancouver area,” said Rick Thorpe, minister of competition, science and enterprise. “This investment represents a vote of confidence in the community and a strong endorsement of British Columbia’s competitive business climate and sends the message that British Columbia is open for business.”
